Juliette Nguyễn Thị Nga (31st July 1942 - 26th November 1978), better known by her stage name Thanh Nga, was a Vietnamese actress and cải lương performer. One of the most popular stars of 1970s South Vietnam’s budding theatre scene and recipient of many critics’ accolades, she was celebrated for her distinctive voice, compelling stage presence and often taking on roles of tormented, emotionally complex female characters, with recordings of her stage shows remain popular classics. At the height of her career, in 1978, Thanh Nga and her husband were murdered in an unsuccessful attempt to kidnap their son. She was posthumously awarded the title of Merited Artists in 1984.
